How to Brush After a Breakfast On the Go

Posted on 5/24/2021 by City Smiles DC
How to Brush After a Breakfast On the GoWhether you are grabbing a quick breakfast at a rest stop or airport kiosk while traveling, or eating something on the way to work during a busy morning, consuming breakfast on the go is inevitable for most of us at some point. Even though you may not be able to perform your complete oral hygiene routine while away from home, it is still important to clean your teeth after an on-the-go breakfast so that food debris, bacteria, and plaque do not linger on your teeth all day and wreak havoc on your oral health. Here are some tips on how to brush after eating breakfast on the go.

Pack a Travel Dental Kit

If you have access to a sink at work (or in an airport or rest stop while traveling), there is no reason why you cannot brush your teeth after eating. Simply keep a mini “dental kit” in your desk or personal storage area at work, complete with a travel-sized toothbrush, toothpaste, small container of floss or floss picks, or even a mini bottle of mouthwash. All of these items are easy to find at grocery stores or pharmacies, and are compact enough to pack in your travel bag or tuck away at work. Just make sure to sanitize your travel-sized toothbrush in hot water before using it, and let it dry completely before placing it back in your desk drawer so bacteria and mold do not grow on the brush head.

Water is Key

If you do not have access to a sink, toothbrush, or even dental floss, drinking water is the next best way to clean your teeth on the go. Not only does water wash away plaque and bacteria that can contribute to tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath, but drinking water can also loosen food particles that may have gotten stuck in your teeth during your meal. Plus, if your on-the-go breakfast includes coffee, drinking water afterwards will help to neutralize the acid found in coffee that can damage your enamel. Call us today to learn more.
