What is Invisalign?
Known as the best clear aligners on the market, Invisalign is made of polyurethane plastic which is nearly invisible. They are completely removable, as they are not fixed to the teeth as normal braces usually are. This is a perfect option for those who want to remove their braces during some social occasions as well as to eat and brush teeth completely hassle-free.
However, we don’t recommend our patients to remove their aligner too frequently, as the results will take much longer. Fortunately, you won’t have to remove them on social occasions as the Invisalign aligners are completely discreet. They also allow you to eat anything you want, contrary to metal braces which require certain diet changes.
Our patients have also reported that the Invisalign aligners are very comfortable. This is the result of the flexible material they are made of, as it doesn’t irritate the tissues in the mouth as metal would do. They also protect your teeth and function as nightguards for those who have a habit of grinding or clenching their teeth.
Invisalign Before and After Smile
How does it work?
Invisalign completes the same task as regular braces - applying gentle pressure to the teeth to move them to the desired position.
During our initial assessment, we will use computer software specifically made for Invisalign, and we will design the best plan for your teeth. Unlike other braces, you may have to go through many stages with Invisalign. On every stage, you will get new aligners for both your top and bottom teeth, and you will wear each set for approximately two weeks.
How to Maintain Your Teeth During the Treatment
It’s very easy to maintain oral health during your treatment with Invisalign aligners because they are easily removed. You should try to brush your teeth after every meal, to prevent food from getting stuck in the aligners as this could result in gum disease or tooth decay.
You will also have to clean your aligners regularly. To do this, you can simply clean them with a toothbrush and rinse them with water.
Bear in mind, that you may have to wear your aligners even after you’re done with the treatment. This is necessary to ensure long-term results. We will tell you about all the required steps during your treatment at our clinic.
Are You the Right Candidate?
Invisalign braces can treat most of the same dental issues as traditional metal braces. They are a common choice for patients with overbites, underbites, crossbites, gaps between teeth and overcrowding. However, some patients will still have more benefit from standard braces, most commonly those with severe issues or with cases that involve jaw misalignment.
To see if you’re the right candidate for the treatment, you’ll need to come to our clinic for an initial assessment. We will explain everything you need to know as well as check if you can benefit from Invisalign. If you’re interested to find out more, give us a call City Smiles DC at (202) 539-9499.
